The Chinese Studies Library and Eastern Art Library are on detached
sites, but are run jointly with the main research collection described
above. Together, their Chinese language holdings amount to approximately
700 linear metres, including a collection of some 300 congshu. All Chinese
language holdings of Oxford libraries are being incorporated into the allegro
catalogue. |

- Couling-Chalfant collection of approximately 500 inscribed oracle
bones.
- Stein collection of paper documents from Dunhuang and other Sino-Central
Asian Sites, including the Diamond sutra, the world's earliest dated (AD
868) printed "book"; also, inscribed wood and bamboos slips (Han period
206 BC-AD 220)
- Manuscripts include Taiping documents (Gordon papers), maps, parts
of the Yongle dadian
- Leifengta printed scroll (AD 975)
- More than 200 Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing (AD 960-1911) fine printed
editions
- Modern printed books & periodicals: broad coverage of the humanities

Humanities and social sciences in Chinese: from the 1880s to 1997,
copyright receipt from Hong Kong; strong collections of early printed fiction
(Ming-Qing), Peking Gazette and, most notable, the Stein collection from
Dunhuang which is being gradually digitised and mounted on the web.
Materials in Chinese and in other languages are available from other
departments in the British Library such as the India Office Collections,
Science Reference and Information Service and Document Supply Centre (located
in Boston Spa, Yorkshire). For further information see the World Wide Web
